Reading Is Fundamental

As the name of the non profit organization known as “RIF” implies, “Reading Is Fundamental” And while it is true that we as African people are very boisterous and seem to learn better from stories that are turned into lessons, this is not the preferred method of teaching by Europeans who are either in control of or who have greatly influenced the education systems of African people throughout the diaspora.

Lack of interesting content about African people in the schools taught in an Afrocentric way among other things has caused a lack of interest in reading for our children which carries with us as adults. African people around the globe are not avid readers. Even African Americans who globally have more readily available finances to purchase books than any other African demographic in our diaspora, allocate a small percentage of our overall spending toward purchasing books. Not nearly enough of us spend our free time reading. In today’s world you must know how and take the time to read. Our enemies and oppressors in this world actually hide very little of their plans that are plotted against us. In many cases, their global agendas are planned and printed in educational journals, books and websites years in advance before coming into fruition. Unfortunately, not enough of us read and properly interpret and disseminate this information to our people before it is too late.

On a more local level, many of us sign contracts, privacy policies and other legal documents everyday without taking time to read them. And then we complain and look for help in many cases from our opressors when we find that we have been”cheated” or in our eyes “done wrong”. We have to change this behavior amongst our people so no one will ever say or think again that “If you want to hide something from a n*&#@r put it in a book.”
